Is there anything better than the smell of bacon frying? Well, yes, actually there is—the lack of mess and hot grease involved with oven cooked bacon!

Now, I will admit that cooking bacon in the skillet is the best, but I much prefer to cook bacon in the oven. And the difference in taste and texture to me is negligible. The oven cooked bacon is as crispy as you want it, depending on how long you cook it, and it’s just so much easier.

Oven Cooked Bacon

There are a couple of ways to make oven cooked bacon. You can use a rack in a baking sheet, although I don’t suggest this method. I’ve tried it and the bacon always sticks to the rack, which negates the easy cleanup of cooking it in the oven because then you have to soak the rack! Another method, and my preferred choice, is to line a baking sheet with foil and spray lightly with cooking spray. The bacon doesn’t stick and all you do is pour off the excess grease and toss the used foil. Voila! Cleanup is super simple.

You can also just place the bacon right on the baking sheet, which I occasionally do, but this method involves more cleanup because you usually have to soak the pan a little bit.

I especially like to cook bacon in the oven if I’m preparing breakfast for a large group since it allows me to do other things at the same time, whereas frying bacon in the skillet requires more hands-on supervision. And I like to sprinkle a little brown sugar and cayenne pepper on the bacon but if you don’t want to do this your bacon will still be delicious because, well, it’s BACON.

Oven cooked bacon is simple, quick, and easy regardless of the method you use. Try it and see if you aren’t converted!

I have been cooking bacon in the oven using this recipe for years. Every one that I have cooked bacon for wants the recipe. They can’t believe how much crispier it is. It is so much easier than standing over the skillet and getting your arms burned when the bacon pops.
